Are zebra and red-cheeked-cordon-blue finches hard to breed?
Answer Zebra finches are extremely easy to breed in captivity. However, I do not know how easily cordon bleu finches breed. They are a fairly common species, so I would assume they readily breed with a properly set up habitat. Both species of finches need large cage (whether breeding or not) to fly around in. Minium cage size recomendation from me for a breeding pair of finches would be 18 inches high by 24 inches wide by 18 inches deep. (assuming their chicks are removed from the cage right at 8 to 9 weeks). If you plan to house more than one pair of finch, or if you plan to keep the babies with the parents longer… a much larger cage would be needed. Red Cheeked Cordon Bleu finches need slightly bigger cages than zebra finches, due to their larger size. I hope this helps.
