Are you supposed to have a black discharge after leep procedure?

It’s not unusual to have a black, watery or even blood tinged discharge after the procedure. The cells of the cervix have been killed, and dead cells can turn black. Burned cells would also turn black. The discharge should not last more than a few days, though, and it should not have a really noticeable odor. Usually the discharge starts off black or slightly bloody, and then becomes clear and watery as the dead cells are sloughed off and cleared away. If you have any questions, though, call the gyn who did the procedure. They can put your mind at ease and even have a peek to make sure things are normal.
