Are you speaking strictly of fish with the name “shark” in it, like the Bala Shark (which is actually a minnow) or the silver-tipped shark (which is a catfish)?

Are you speaking strictly of fish with the name “shark” in it, like the Bala Shark (which is actually a minnow) or the silver-tipped shark (which is a catfish)? I cannot say because “algae fish” can refer to dozens of different species, including all species of Plecostomus. I recommend doing some research on each fish before you buy it, and make sure you have a large enough tank. Most plecos will be left alone by even the most aggressive fish, but some such as the Golden Algae eater can be aggressive themselves and do no do very well with slower moving fish. That being said, if you have a regular pleco than pretty much any “shark” should be fine with it, excepting maybe the bottom-dwellers. Do not forget that most plecos can grow to extremely large lengths – some over two feet. So you had better have a tank of at least 50 gallons if you have a larger species.
