Are you familiar with Vocus — media database management and new distribution service?
Mary, we’ve used both Vocus and Cision for our agency’s media database. I’ve never personally used the distribution engine for either of these because they are essentially e-mail blast engines driven out of the media database. They are more professional-looking, but media still know that the e-mail is from a blast engine. If used for a small, targeted list of reporters who would cover your news anyway, it probably works just as well as direct e-mails. Also, your results are only as good as your list, so if you have the right reporters on your list you’ll do OK, regardless of distribution. If you do a blast to 1,000 reporters you’ll do poorly and risk damaging relationships with those reporters who received news not relevant to them. You’ll only get online pick-up through Vocus if you target online reporters. In my experience, most reporters ignore blast e-mails, even if the news is r
