Are you a guitarist who became a luthier, or a luthier who became a guitarist?
*** NG: I’m a guitar player that became a luthier. But I consider myself to be both a musician and a guitar builder at the same time. As a guitar player, I love all kinds of music and I try to play in several styles. As a luthier, I was taught to build electric guitars by Pavel De la Fuente, and my motivation to learn to make classical guitars was through Jose Yacopi (1916-2006). 2) CG: When did you first meet Jose Yacopi? What kinds of things did you learn from him? *** NG: Jose Yacopi was one of the most respected luthiers in Argentina and I had always wanted to own one of his guitars. One day I went to his house to buy a guitar, and I met him. What a great person — we spent hours talking about guitars, and finally I bought one. After that, I visited him several times at his workshop, he would always show me his best guitars and vihuelas, and then he would explain to me how he became a luthier. He used to tell me that I had to be patient in order to make a good guitar, and then he s
