Are womens careers being harmed by maternity leave laws?
Sadly I suspect this is probably fairly accurate. Some years ago, when I was in my early 20s, I applied for (and got) a job as a Regional Sales Manager. I was told afterwards that it was touch and go whether they were going to give it to me due to my age and the fact I was a womasn, but they decided it would be ok as at the time I had no boyfriend as was therefore unlikely to disappear on maternity leave. Having said that, now I am a stay at home wife and Mum, I have to wonder if women want too much from society. Do we want to have good jobs, or do we want to look after our children. We can’t have it both ways and employers are trying to run a business after all… it’s a tough one.
