Are wind farms good sources for environmentally safe energy?
Even a good idea carried too far may become counter-productive. The case of wind farms is similar. What we need today are environmental systems that will make optimum utilization of resources available. Wind farms do not achieve that objective. Wind is certainly one of the two cleanest sources of energy, the other, of course being solar energy. But what is true of wind as a source of energy , may not necessarily be true of wind farms as a mode of harboring this energy, for the simple reason that they take that particular part of land away from all other use. Windmills do not always need to be ‘farmed’ in a manner they are being put together and managed these days. They can be used in a manner that they do not ‘occupy’ the land, for it is not the land, but the wind over it, that they need to generate electricity. It is generally better if they are dispersed in a manner that allows the land on which they are situated, to be used for other purposes, may it be agricultural, industrial or r
