Are whippets good running dogs?
Maybe. As mentioned, they get very cold very easily. Also, I’m not a big fan of running with dogs. A dog’s body is just not set up to hit the concrete/blacktop for miles on end. Whippets already have such a high rate for leg and joint problems that this could add to it. As far as the household part, they can hav a HUGE prey drive and can be VERY active. These are not just mini greyhounds – they have terrier mixed in. This contributes to the high activity level. They can literally bounce off walls. And for the prey drive, that can mean no dog park, ever. And limited access to small animals – only while on a leash. They are true sighthounds, so they can NEVER EVER EVER be off the leash in an unenclosed area. If anyone in your household does not have the ‘closed door’ thing all the way down, your dog will be gone. If anyone thinks they can train instinct out, your dog will be gone.
