Are welfare, food stamps, WIC, and other social programs beneficial too the poor?
These programs provide temporary aid to people in need. But if the recipients know the government will never force them off the programs, then they have no motivation to get off. Interestingly enough, the same people that claim we need to vacate Iraq to force the Iraqi government to take control, are the same people who support welfare programs at home. It is the same principle – as long as someone knows you are going to take care of them, they are reluctant to take care of themselves.
