Are we required as a Tier 3 SA Hospital to have the full range of monitoring equipment for every surgical operation?

Whilst specific items of equipment are essential the criteria should not be interpreted to imply that every piece of monitoring equipment is required for every operation. What is required should be based on a risk assessment and depending on the number and nature of operations performed practices should ensure that equipment provided is adequate for the work actually undertaken. Ref: Standard 5.9 (Tier 3 – Small Animal) Back to top Standard 5.13 states that appropriate external and internal sterility indicators for the system employed must be used to monitor the efficiency of the practices disinfection and/or sterilisation facilities. Are both internal and external sterility indicators always necessary even for single instruments? External sterility indicators should be employed in all instances; internal and external indicators are necessary in wrapped / bulky packs. (Internal indicators are not required for single instruments / non bulky packs). Ref: Standards 5.
