Are we losing social morals norms and values?

within the modern british society norms and values are for ever changing this is due to many factors within society mainly i believe becauses the more relaxed onlook on certain issues and topics people optain it has become more socially acceptable to drink and smoke or be gay whereas years gone by this would be looked at in a very different angle thhe main argument is for what reason have we as a society adopted these modern norms and values maybe schooling the increase of social problems the church numbers falling who knows

No we can never lose social norms and values, they only change over time and are reproduced by parents, media etc. Also culture is very interesting because there is an argument that culture can be defined in a number of ways. For example TV can be argued is the new religion as it does the same for individuals in modern society as religion did for people many years ago. Marx said religion is an opium for the masses which means it was used as a social control. Also sport, alcohol and any other popular activity can count as being the new opium for the people. Although society has changed over time, this is not a new phenomena as it has happened since time began. Modernisation changed the world massively from the old feudalism era. And no doubt new social norms and values will form in the future as well as new influences and opinions.
