Are we genetically predisposed to enjoy types of music, and wear certain styles of clothing?
Not quite so simple, because music and clothing tends to change with culture. However, it’s very possible there’s a genetic predispositions to conformity (to the culturally popular bands) and non-conformity (those who seek out obscure bands and resolutely stop liking them if they become popular). There’s also the fact that a lot of music is designed to evoke emotions, so people with more depressive personalities will seek out emo, the people angry or more aggressive personalities heavy metal rock. It’s hard to be aggressive while listening to Enya. (Then again, maybe that’s quite easy). Hearing or musical skill may come into it: some people cannot distinguish tones so well, so may like anything. People with a lot of musical talent probably don’t want to listen to The Jonas Brothers or Busted or whoever… So it’s not like there’s a gene for “likes Girls Aloud”, but there are genes that predispose people to taking the easiest route, or even the male psyche, designed to arrract them to w
