Every committee member weighs this differently, but all expect to see some service work. After 30 years of service work, you can only doctor well if you enjoy the way you spend your day. This career is service work and service work is not for everyone and we (and you) need to figure out if you are committed to service. There are many selfish reasons to become a doctor: the salary, job security, and prestige just to name a few. When reviewing your application, the Admissions Committee is trying to gage how much of your motivation comes from your desire to serve others, and your volunteer work will speak louder to us than your words.
