Are visits and assignments approved locally or by DOE?
ANS: The Laboratory Directors designee, the Deputy Director for Operations, approves most Foreign Visits & Assignments. For visitors or assignees that are citizens of a country identified by the Department of State as state sponsors of terrorism, the Secretary of Energy is the approval authority. Those countries are Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.
