Are Venus and Serena Williams Supernovas?

0

Just 3 short years ago, the Grand Slam Finals were the private domain of the Williams sisters. At one point, they played against each other in an amazing four consecutive Grand Slam Finals. Overall, the two sisters have won a combined 12 Grand Slam titles. Serena has won 7 and Venus 5. First Venus was the best player in the world and Serena number 2. Then Serena was the best player in the world and Venus number 2. (Here’s a strange stat: Even when Venus was obviously the best player in the world and dominating everyone including Serena, she was never the number one ranked player in the world.) It was an absolute certainty, the sisters were poised to dominate women’s tennis for years to come. Today Venus is ranked #30 in the world, and Serena #110. I can’t recall seeing two dominant superstar athletes fall so far, so fast. So what happened? Did the other players on tour get tired of getting overpowered by Serena and Venus, and dedicate themselves to getting stronger and in better shape?
