Are UV cured coatings better than conventional refinishing systems?
Although UV has just recently been used by the surface restoration industry, the technology has been available for quite some time and used by the dental and automotive industry as well as others. UV refinishing differs widely from conventional methods in many ways. The ability to cure instantly with zero downtime is one factor. UV coatings are 100% solids. During the process of curing there is no evaporation therefore the film retains the same mil thickness when cured. UV finishes give off no VOC’s, making it extremely green for the environment and a much safer and healthier alternative for the technician. Being that UV coatings are 100% solids makes for an extremely durable, much harder finish. Adhesion, gloss factor, gloss retention and hardness are all greatly increased through UV technology. The appearance, look, feel and performance closely resembles that of kiln fired porcelain. UV coatings do give a strong odor, however it doesn’t produce solvent gases and the smell dissipates
