Are US Navy Seals considered the most highly trained of the US armed forces?

The Seals are a specialized breed of warriors that are probably the best trained for their type of warfare. In the Army, the Rangers are specialized, as are the Green Berets, and you could argue that the Delta teams are the most highly trained. Each has its role in the combat sceme of things. I was in the Air Force and the Air Commandos were the elite combat team. But, some of their responsibilities were close air support combat control, so they wouldn’t be as highly trained in specific combat as the Seals, but I wouldn’t want to see a Seal inserted for combat close air support. I agree with the prior answer that says that the Para rescue guys may be the most highly trained. In my branch of service, they were called PJ’s or para jumpers and they went through grueling training that would probably cause problems for the Seals, the Delta teams and the Air Commandos. They earned the respect of everyone they saved and everyone who knows who they are. The argument is along the same lines as

Being Special Forces (Green Berets) for over 5 years, I have worked with all of our country’s “elite” teams…They all have there areas of expertise and different ways of training. There are no two forces that train the same….that being said, the Delta force has the most vigorous and hard training and their reputation is well known, and not known….They are truely the most highly trained of the US Forces.

Define “highly trained”. The Special Forces definitely are physically superior and are far from stupid, packing some mad skills. Navy Nuclear Propulsion guys barely know what a pushup is and only run twice a year for the PRT, but the education they get in their field is equivalent to 3-4 years of college just for the stuff that they can declassify enough to put on a college transcript… assuming the training doesn’t drive them nuts (it happens fairly often) Just as it takes a person with great strength and stamina to become a SEAL or Green Beret, it takes a certain special level of intelligence, willpower, and sheer mental endurance to successfully become a nuke. So it depends.
