This is George Washington’s birthday, but the banks aren’t closed. That took place a week ago, on what is now called Presidents Day, even though no presidents were born that day. (This is so confusing.) The Father of Our Country turned 278 today, unless you take into consideration the American Colonies’ adoption of the Gregorian calendar in 1752. When the British Empire, which included the Yanks, converted from the Julian calendar to get in line with everybody else, George and everyone else lost 11 days.
