Are turn-based strategy games dead?
Here at the office, a few of us play games everyday at lunch. We played real-time strategy games like Starcraft, but realized that at 1:00pm our lunches were sitting untouched and cold because the game required so much attention. We have since played Axis & Allies and currently play Worms Armageddon and find that the paced play allows us to eat our lunches and still squeeze in an hour of gaming. Turn-based strategy will live on as long as people like hot food for lunch. – Mike Howell I think it is a shame that there are so few good turn-based strategy games on the market today. Sid Meyer’s Alpha Centauri and Age of Wonders seem to be the only recent noteworthy ones, although there have been some contenders. It seems that developers seem to want to jump on the bandwagon and make all games real-time, 3D, and any other current fad they can find to try to appeal to a mass market, rather than simply designing a good game that gamers will enjoy.
