Ironically, Russia and Turkey have traditionally been constant enemies, but both having undergone “regime change,” they are becoming best buds. When Russia was nominally “Christian” (under the Czars), then the Moslems were the bad guys and they constantly fought. Turkey loses WWI and the Ottoman Empire is kaput and Kemal Attaturk changes the government to a secular, democratically elected one whose citizens merely happen to be Moslem. Meanwhile, Russia bails on WWI and becomes a Communist government. More irony: Christian vs. Moslem should find some common ground, you would think; atheist vs. Moslem should be the bitter enemies, but Russia has been courting the Moslem states back to when they were atheist communists. And while Russia was wooing them, the U.S. was merely buying oil from them. So never mind the atheism; Russia has acted friendly while the U.S. has pounded on the counter demanding service.
