With so much emphasis put on winning, are we beginning to see a new trend developing in mixed martial arts? In recent events, I believe that the wrestler lay-and-pray style is becoming the new trend. It seems to be a very effective way to win fights in the judges’ eyes. Furthermore, why is a “silly” takedown scored as highly as a “monster” punch that changes the course of the whole fight? Perhaps we are seeing the effects that “athletes” are bringing to our beloved sport. Rather than having fighters fight, we are seeing athlete compete.
