ARE TOYS FREE FROM LOOSE PARTS, SHARP EDGES OR POINTS AND LONG CORDS?
Children can be seriously injured by toys that choke, cut, puncture, shock, burn, or damage hearing. Toys should be age-appropriate, unbreakable and non-toxic. They should contain no small parts, have strings no longer than 12 inches and have no parts capable to entrapping fingers, toes, or hands. Toys should have no sharp points or edges, not emit noise capable of damaging hearing and have no shock or thermal hazards. Assist parents to discard or immediately repair toys if damaged or dangerous. 20. ARE TODDLER GATES PROPERLY INSTALLED? (ACCORDION-TYPE GATES SHOULD NOT BE USED.) Toddler gates should be used to prevent falls on stairs (20 percent of all falls occur on stairs). Gates should be used at the top of the stairs and at the bottom to prevent a toddler from crawling upstairs and falling back down.
