Most toads can cause some mild, self-limiting gastrointestinal upset. This can be due to a taste reaction–they lick the toad and then the taste leads to nausea, possibly vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy. Bufo toads are very poisonous to dogs. These can lead to severe cardiovascular (collapse) and neurological signs like seizures. This is a fairly rapidly acting event so if your dog just has vomiting and diarrhea this is probably not a concern. Did you actually see your puppy lick or eat a toad?
