Are tinted lenses the only treatment available for people who experience vision problems while reading?
No…tinted lens therapy is combined with other standard treatments for vision problems, such as prescription glasses, vision therapy (exercises) or visual perception therapy, when necessary. It also is combined with special education efforts, such as tutoring and/or resource classes. Who can diagnose colour sensitivity? Persons who may benefit from tinted lenses can be identified by educators and vision screeners; however, the final diagnosis and prescription of coloured lenses should be provided by an Optometrist (an eye doctor who is trained to diagnose and treat many different vision problems). Do all people with reading difficulties respond to colour? Unfortunately, no. Some reading difficulties are not caused by vision problems and therefore cannot be helped with glasses, vision therapy or visual perception theapy. Further testing and treatment for learning disabilities is best provided by a Psychologist.
