Are Tibetan Mastiffs aggressive with strange people? How about strange dogs?
Each Tibetan Mastiff has its own personality, but generally, Tibetan Mastiffs are fine with strange people when accompanied by someone known to, and trusted by the dog. It’s when the stranger is alone on or near the property (including vehicles), or acts in a threatening way to family that the dog shows aggression. When accompanied by the owner, some Tibetan Mastiffs can be aloof and will not greet strangers, while others can’t wait to kiss anyone in range. As for dog aggression, much depends on locale, age, and gender. Tibetan Mastiffs will definitely defend their territory (or mates) from other dogs, but aggression to that same dog may not appear on neutral ground (or when mates are out of season). Tibetan Mastiffs can be same gender aggressive, unless one of them is a puppy, or in the case of males, one or both are neutered. It is strongly recommended that intact adult males not run together, especially if females in season are nearby.
