If you are referring to when robots become sentient (if that ever happens), then the laws that apply to humans would apply to them. This would include ownership (slavery) and self-determination. But you’re not likely to see a sentient, self-aware robot in your lifetime. Enabling or prohibiting actions differently to any sentient being would be unethical. So far, that hasn’t been an issue, as humans are the only sentient beings on Earth. And if a sentient robot were to be created, rights would only apply to the sentient form. This event would not mean that “human” rights need to apply to food blenders or any ol’ electro-mechanical form. Clearly, a criteria for self-awareness and sentience will be created and used when the time comes. But once so declared, the “free” sentient robot would have to conform to all of societies laws, and suffer consequences for breaking them. Until then, there are no non-fictional laws for robots.
