Are those with high myopia of above 600 higher risk of detached retina when doing strenous exercises?
Severe or high myopes (over 6 diopters) may or may not be at risk of detachment from doing the exercises you mention. There seems to be different schools of thought on the matter. So it depends on the retinal specialist you speak to and who has has taken a good look at the back of your eyes. Some might tell you straining to push or lift heavy weights can stress the retinas. Some may tell you acceleration and deceleration (like abrupt stops in motion) may cause detachment. There are no studies done to test your question so it is all in the realm of speculation and anecdotal evidence. You’ll get different answers from people who experienced detachment of the retina. Some may swear it was their lifestyle, some not. One thing is certain: a direct hit to the eye by a fast moving object, like a fist or tennis ball or ping pong ball even, or whatever can do the trick. As a high myope go get your eyes check out by 2 retinal specialists and be aware of the status of your retinas. Go on with you
