Are things looking up for UBSs MENA team?

0

It’s not been a great 18 months for UBS’s MENA investment banking team, with the bank slipping out of the top ten for regional revenue rankings in 2009. But, with the appointment of a new CEO for the region, things are looking up and job opportunities could emerge. UBS announced has announced the appointment of Anthony Iliya as CEO for the Middle East and North Africa region, taking over from Per Larsson who left to pursue other interests in April. He joins from Credit Suisse in Hong Kong. Larsson joined UBS from the DIFX in October 2008 during a period of turbulence for the bank. UBS didn’t fare well in the investment banking revenue stakes last year, slipping out of the top ten in 2009 and ranking tenth by the end of Larsson’s tenure, according to figures from Dealogic. Since then, it’s had a change of fortunes and is now ranked third in the region. UBS made moves to bolster its Middle Eastern presence in July last year, setting up a Saudi operation with Mohamed Sammakia at the helm
