Are things in England, Scotland and Wales different?
In england the education system is completely devalued and a Wizard of Oz mentality prevails; everyone gets a diploma of some sort. It has become unthinkable to admit there are less academically gifted children and university degrees are easy to obtain and consequently valueless. Scotland is a beacon of true education with a difficult examination system and true merit awards for academically brilliant children. There is no scoring system in Scottish education; i.e. grants are not awarded for the number of “problem” children given MAs or for the amount of kids awarded degrees from the lower class housing estates. Wales remains an anomaly. Forever in the shadow of england and with an inferiority complex and envy of Scottish independence from english influence, a good education can be obtained in Wales at a price. Welsh speaking private schools are excellent; the state system is as bad as anywhere else in england with the added weakness of diluting childrens learning time by forcing them t
The truth is that there is very little difference between the different parts of the UK (but don’t say it too loud). However, as you can see from some of the nasty comments, English nationalism has been on the rise for the past few years which leads to many English people hating Scotland and Wales and pretending Northern Ireland doesn’t exist; which in turn leads to a backlash with hatred leading in the other direction. There are some differences in the way things are run, such as Scotland has “free” university education and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are trying to implement free presciption medicine. England however is still run by a centralised government and getting things done there basically doesn’t happen, hence the rise in nationalism. The difference in education is actually small, Scottish children often revise (study) from the same books as they use for the English schools., so the subject matter is almost identical and politics probably is taught in some schools.
First of all I will point out that the UK is made up of 4 countries. England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The differences are not that great and we do not have border crossings. The main difference is that Scottish and Welsh people are slightly scruffy and a little bit smelly. I mean its like the deep south in america these people have never seen a bar of soap. Let alone a text book in school. The Scots do have it better though and all Scottish students get a university education for free. Where in England people pay an average of 3,300 pounds per year. As for the Scot above saying that it is easier to pass exams here, I would like to point out to him that the English have evolved and moved on since the time of William Wallace. Flower of Scotland, their national anthem reads and stood against him proud edwards army and sent him homeward to think again and now for the best bit those days are gone now and in the past they must remain BUT WE CAN STILL RISE NOW and be the great n
It’s really far too complex to write here. Need to have a look at lots of other info in these places. Education is however something controlled only by Scotland. That area is outside the Union as part of the conditions. What subjects they have, type of exams, start and leaving dates, teaching methods, class sizes, new schools, and more, is down to Scotland. If areas need to be strengthened (literacy, new schools, higher exam pass rates) then it’s down to Scotland. It’s no real concern or matter for the UK. There is no UK body with an eye on it. The UK Government cannot bring it under their control or the Union is automatically void (no more UK). — – “because you’re all in the UK” – “you’re under one country” That’s not true per say. It’s different countries in a Union (club) that create something else (the UK state). Certain things may be ‘one’, or under complete UK Government control, like military.
Well in the UK scotland is the only country that has the rights to its own laws where as the rest of the british isles are still fully governed by the “queen” because scotland has been fighting to get away from britain since before we can remember. But either way scotland has things in the education system like 1st year 2nd year and so on where as england and wales its things like year 10 and year 11 scotland is SLIGHTLY ahead of england in education by about a year maybe just half a year but either way scotaldn is seperate in their laws and government but still under the main rules untill NOV 2010 when the scottish referendum bill is passed.
