Are they unemployed and independently wealthy?
No! All of our members work regular jobs to earn money for dog food and gasoline. Team Members come from all backgrounds and in all professions. Teaching Seminars: LA Search Dogs also teaches seminars on Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Search Dog training. The Team put on a seminar in March 2000 which was attended by approximately 80 Law Enforcement dog handlers from Southern California, Northern California, Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon. Certifications: There are basically two main types of certifications for Search Dogs: Area and Trailing. There are also several Specialty certifications. Area dogs search for any human scent in a given area. A handler is told to search a house, school yard, field, or mountainside, and the dog will indicate or alert on any human walking, standing, hiding, or unconscious. Alerts are usually a happy bark, body language change, or other signal to the handler that the dog has found the victim.
