Are they going to make The Subtle Knife into a Film (Sequel to The Golden Compass)?

Hi, The deal was if The Golden Compass did well in Japan then “maybe”. New Line botched the U.S. marketing and poorly sold off the overseas rights and lost $80 million on the film. But the film has earned $400 million worldwide and won an Acadamy Award. So New Line, now bought by Warner, would be unlikely to make the sequels. However, Warner and/or others, “might” pick up the story since it is profitable if marketed as a family film and under a better oversea rights deal. One more thought, Warner may have helped to sabotage the U.S. release in order to buy up New Line at a cheaper price. And if that is the case, I expect there will be sequel sooner or later but from Warner, who owns the rights now. Sorry for the “not an exact answer”, but things are up in the air now. I would say in 6 months we’ll all know for sure.
