Are these typical alcohol withdrawal symptoms?
Insomnia is a common symptom of alcohol withdrawal but usually people have other symptoms (anxiety, sweating, increased heart rate, hand tremors, etc.) as well for at least the first few days after quitting drinking. Sometimes people who have drank heavily for a long time can have mild depressive symptoms and/or sleep problems for a few weeks or even months after quitting. It can take some time for your brain to completely adjust to the absence of booze but your sleep should gradually improve. Did you have a sleep, mood or anxiety disorder before you started drinking? If you did then your insomnia could be due to that.
