Are there “waterproof” pedometers for water walking?
Underwater Pedometer? I get email every couple of months from water walkers who would like to track their steps in the pool. There is more than one obstacle to doing that. First, you would need a waterproof pedometer, and if you plan to wear it in the pool, it needs to keep out water to a certain depth. There is only one manufacturer who lists a waterproof pedometer, the Oregon Scientific Waterproof MP3 Player with FM Radio & Built-in Pedometer. It has a hefty pricetag and is waterproof to 3 feet. I also found an adventure racing supply company that has apparently created its own version of a waterproof pedometer by encasing a pedometer in plastic. They don’t list the depth they guarantee it for, it seems mostly to resist sweat and not take in water at stream crossings. The bigger question is: would the pedometer really count water walking steps? I think the motion of water walking is different from land walking, and you might not get the same motion that would record a step on the ped
