Are there times where Al protects Naj from the “harsh reality” of life?
Rhys: Sure! That gets going from episode two onwards. He becomes Naj’s parent and starts parenting him immediately, consciously or not. What have been the biggest challenges for both of you? Patel: Everything’s new to me and has been so amazing. I’ve not done much before this. I haven’t found anything really challenging because everyone’s been so helpful. I’ve always been supported. Everyone, especially Phil, has been amazing. Rhys: The challenges for me? Doing the work, trying to make it the best it can be; the most honest. Trying to push myself. The crew and the production side of thing works. Everyone knows what they’re doing so that goes smoothly. Did either of you track down the original to watch for research? Patel: I didn’t know it was a remake. It’s better [not having seen it], because if we know what’s going to happen at the end of this, we’d be prepared for it and it wouldn’t look like real life. None of us have really tried to look at the original, because it would ruin it.
