Are there suggestions for how programs can appropriately and effectively reflect their support of the Aims?
To begin, program statements of purpose will likely reflect BYU Aims. To take one example, the Special Education BS Statement of Purpose reads, in part: Special education teacher candidates engage in collaborative interpersonal relations which demonstrate the divine worth of each individual, assisting students with disabilities to maximize their potential. With regard to program learning outcomes that can be assessed, following is an example of how the Aim, “spiritually strengthening,” might be expressed as a program outcome, embedded in course requirements and systematically assessed. PLO: Graduates of this program will be able to formulate coherent, persuasive arguments for their religious beliefs, informed by their study of this discipline and informative to a non-LDS audience. More specifically, it is expected that they will be able to address questions like, “How can someone educated as a _(chemist)_ believe in God / the Bible / modern prophets?
