Yes, there are still investments into the J2SE adapter engine planned, such as management of certificates (SAP NW PI 7.0 SP14, SAP NW PI 7.1 SP06) or remote configuration for administrators (planned for Enhancement Package 1 for SAP NW PI 7.0 and 7.1).
