Are there standards in capital-case representation?
While there are no national standards for capital-case representation, state agencies, bar associations, public-defender organizations, state high courts, and local court systems in individual states have developed standards that address minimum qualifications for attorneys who represent capital defendants. The NCSC has compiled a state-by-state list of the qualifications required for attorneys representing indigent defendants in capital cases. Statutes and court rules relating to attorney standards are also provided.
