Are there specific subject areas that are acceptable for continuing medical education and others that are not acceptable?
*+Except for credits in each mammographic modality used, *-FDA does not require specific subject areas for continuing medical education in mammography. All continuing education units ^+(category I for interpreting physicians)^- related to the diagnosis or treatment of breast disease or to other areas that will aid facility personnel in improving the quality of mammography, *+may*- ^+will^- be acceptable toward meeting the continuing education requirement. ^+Also, because of the external pressures affecting mammography facilities that have caused facility closures and a decrease in the number of personnel performing mammography, topics such as medical malpractice and mammography billing and reimbursement are becoming increasingly important to the continued viability of many mammography facilities.
