Are there special requirements for pet services and animal welfare?
Depending on the type of pet services provided, a license may be required. A Pet Facility License is required by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture for pet facilities that offer kennel, training and grooming services. Pet shops also require this license. Contact the agency at 860-713-2506. Note: A kennel license is required for pet sitting services if the owner’s pet is cared for at your home/facility for a fee. Also, if importing birds, the agency requires a bird or poultry permit. No licensing is required for pet walking, sitting (if taking care of the animal in the owners home) or pet waste removal. Check with the local health and sewage departments for regulation on dumping waste. According to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services grooming and sitting services is not subject to sales tax.
