Are there special motor vehicle laws for operating an E-Bike?
The U.S. Department of Transportation has ruled that an electric bicycle does not fall into the category of a motor vehicle. However, various states view electric bicycles differently and therefore have different laws (i.e., speed limit, minimum age of operator, helmet requirements, registration requirements, license/ permit requirements, etc.), so call your local motor vehicle department or check your state’s current motor vehicle code for any special regulations.
