Advanced Texas Studies, American Culture Studies, World Area Studies, and Advanced Social Science Problems, all one-semester electives in the essential elements, do not appear in the social studies TEKS. However, each of these courses can be taught under a new social studies elective, Special Topics in Social Studies, 113.38, a one-semester course that may be repeated with different course content for a maximum of two credits.
