Are there separate MARC records for the print and electronic version of a book?

• Yes. Current cataloging best practices allow for either a single combined record or for two separate records. After surveying the needs of our customers, we decided to provide separate records for the print and e-book version. The print version record has only the ISBN for the print book in the MARC 020 field. The e-book version has only the ISBN for the electronic version in the MARC 020 field. However, at the request of one of our customers, the ebook MARC record has the ISBN for the print version in the 776 field subfield z, which enables a library that has selected the one record option to run a batch program to merge the MARC records for the print and electronic version of a book.
