As Wireless LANs gain in popularity, the level of technical knowledge required to set them up has decreased. Wireless LAN manufacturers have made it incredibly easy to configure wireless routers, allowing novice users to connect their own networks in a matter of an hour or so. However, the ease of installation has come at a cost of reduced security. To make Wireless LANs easier to install and use out of the box, most manufacturers, by default, do not enable many of the important security functions that allow your network to stay private and secure. In effect, this allows you to simply install a router, install your wireless network adapters on your home computers, turn them on and connect wirelessly.
