No. You do not have to be a previous or current resident of Michigan to obtain a marriage license and legally marry in Michigan. However, if either party is a resident of Michigan they must obtain a license from the county clerk of the county in which they reside. Non-residents of Michigan must obtain a license in the county in which the marriage ceremony will be performed.
