Yes, but certainly not identical. Online Virtual World Browsers: – Active Worlds: (commercial) Maybe the first program on this field. Admirable for it’s ideas, yet the technical limitations are becoming more and more obvious. The small number of people online maybe also shows that the project never really worked. – Worlds.com: (commercial) very similar to Active Worlds with a series of minor improvements. They’ve made lots of publicity though, and they’ve made 3D online VR worlds more known to the general public. – Netverse: (GPL, under devel) The project is in their planning stages, I’m looking forward to see their development.
