Are there programs available which focus on urban and community forestry?
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, with assistance from the U.S. Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program, coordinates several community programs. One of the numerous programs DEC promotes is ReLeaf, which educates the public about the importance of planting and caring for trees in urban areas. Another program is School SpruceUp, which encourages students to create natural havens on school grounds. These events rely on a statewide network of volunteers and professionals, working together to maintain a healthy natural environment.
