Are there procedures for employees to follow to help protect the environment?

There are certain procedures that are required by the ISO 14001 standard. Most of these required procedures address how the EMS will be developed, implemented, and maintained. For example, there must be a procedure to state how the organization will communicate environmental information (both internally and externally). Another required procedure must address the training requirements for all employees and any additional requirements for those employees whose work may create a sigificant impact on the environment. All employees should follow the specific procedures that state how to do your job (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)). If your work involves materials that can significantly impact the environment, these SOPs will address how to minimize such an impact. Many of these SOPs are likely posted on your facility’s EMS website. Contact your supervisor to find out which procedures apply to you as it relates to your job.
