The Court Statistics Project (CSP) in collaboration with the National Association of Appellate Court Clerks (NCACC) has developed a new guide to statistical reporting for appellate courts. This new model approach will provide for more accurate collection and comparison of appellate court data. The Guide contains four sections: Appeal by Right, Appeal by Permission, Death Penalty and Original Proceeding/Other Appellate Matter. Each section includes a description of the unit of count and examples for courts to follow. Additionally, clear examples and descriptions are given for each of the following: caseload summary, manner of disposition, type of court opinion, and case outcome.
