Are there other illnesses than tuberculosis that cause people to cough up blood?
So far for research topics in school this year I’ve researched polio, lung cancer, and tuberculosis. Lung cancer can make you cough up blood but it isn’t easily caught and by the stage where you cough up blood, you would have noticed. Pneumonia did this to me. You definitely have a lung/throat and mouth infection of some kind that’s getting blood into the airways so you’re coughing it up. I can guess pneumonia… I suppose severe influenza might be able to do this. I believe ebola can as well. There are probably hundreds upon hundreds of other diseases too. No disease that makes you cough up blood with not be harmful. I understand what you mean by it being poetic, I felt the same way. I felt like a doomed character in some kind of story by Edgar Allen Poe, like the Masque of the Red Death. But any disease or anything that is severe enough to damage a lung/organ so much that you cough up the blood is not good.
