Are there opportunities to earn additional certifications?
The ATOR program is not focused on certification delivery. Certifications are generally skill-specific and our program does not intend to produce any one kind of outdoor professional. However, certifications are often an important qualification for certain employment opportunities in the industry. To accommodate the unique direction of each student, the ATOR program has an Independent Studies component. In Independent Studies, students are able to earn credit for certifications they gain during their time in the ATOR program. Students work with an advisor to identify the direction and opportunities for this external training to assist in making the most of these experiences – including coordinating course offerings specific for ATOR students. Costs of certifications/courses/training taken for the purpose of Independent Studies is not covered in tuition and is the responsibility of the student.
